Chip Repair Guide

Repairing a chip on your car's windshield is a relatively simple process that can save you money and prevent the chip from spreading into a larger crack. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you understand the process of a windscreen chip repair.

Step 1: Assess the Damage

  • Park your car in a shaded area.
  • Clean the area around the chip to remove any dirt or debris, allow it to dry completely.
  • Examine the chip to determine if it can be repaired.
  • Chips & cracks smaller than a one dollar coin are usually repairable.
  • Repairing a cracked windscreen is a delicate process that requires specialized tools and expertise. If you are unsure it's best to leave this job to the professionals to avoid causing further damage to your windscreen.

Step 2: Apply the Repair Resin

  • Carefully fill the chip with the repair resin.
  • Apply firm pressure to ensure the resin fills the entire chip.
  • Place a curing strip over the resin-filled chip.
  • If your kit includes a UV light, hold it over the curing strip for the specified time to cure the resin.
  • If not, move your car into direct sunlight and let it sit for 15-30 minutes.

Step 3: Remove Excess Resin

  • After the resin has cured, carefully remove the curing strip.
  • Scrape away any excess resin using a razor blade.
  • Be careful not to damage the surrounding glass.
  • Inspect the repaired chip from both inside and outside of the car to ensure the repair is smooth and level.

Step 4: Allow the Repair to Fully Cure

  • Avoid washing your car or exposing it to extreme temperatures for at least 24 hours to allow the repair resin to fully cure.
